EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION FOR INFORMATION ON LOCAL DEVELOPMENT (AEIDL)

AEIDL was founded in 1988 by a group of individuals convinced that European integration would significantly help citizens, local initiatives and regions to develop their full potential.

AEIDL manages a range of contracts with different DGs of the European Commission (DG ENV, DG REGIO, and DG EMPL) and has clients in the Member States, including local authorities, national and regional administrations, and NGOs. For 10 years, AEIDL managed the European LEADER Observatory on behalf of DG AGRI. From 2001-4, AEIDL was responsible for communications for the LIFE-Environment programme. AEIDL’s services include:

• co-ordinating transnational networks;
• organising European seminars and symposia;
• producing multilingual information tools, databases, publications and Internet sites;
• identifying and disseminating know-how;
• drawing up methodologies on local and regional development, including assessment of good practices;
• and evaluation.

AEIDL has a permanent multilingual staff of around 20 professionals of different nationalities and backgrounds, who mobilise their skills in local development, information, research and documentation, producing publications, managing Internet sites, organising seminars, conferences, and evaluating projects and programmes. The core team is complemented by an extensive network of external partners and experts in every country of the EU and in the candidate countries. AEIDL has constantly invested in state-of-the-art technologies in order to deliver high-level products and services to its clients.
