THE INSTITUTE FOR LANDSCAPE ECOLOGY (ILE)
ILE is a renowned institution active in the field of nature conservation. ILE has been involved for more than 10 years in EU Nature Conservation activities. ILE has implemented the CORINE Biotopes database and was the leading organisation of the Phare EEA Topic Link on Nature Protection and Biodiversity, prior to joining the EEA European Topic Centre on Nature and Biodiversity when the EU candidate countries adhered to the EEA (which happened in advance of EU membership). One of the main tasks carried out by ILE in recent years has been the preparation of information sheets on plant species and species of selected animal groups, included in Annex II of the Habitat Directive. ILE experts also focused on the determination of habitat requirements and distribution of animal species mentioned in the Habitat Directive. ILE experts evaluated the proposals from the Accession Countries on listing plant and animal species and habitats for the Habitat and Birds Directives.
ILE is also involved in other projects connected with nature conservation and biodiversity in the framework of the European Commission's 5th and the 6th Framework Research Programmes:
