TIMESIS S.R.L.
TIMESIS was established in Tuscany (Italy) in 1991 by a team of professionals with domestic and international experience in environment, agriculture, forestry and soil sciences. The company provides expertise to Italian public and private institutions, universities and research centres and also to the European Commission. TIMESIS promotes, plans and implements a variety of projects, mainly:
- Soil surveys and mapping (at various scales, including thematic mapping) in several Italian regions and in several other countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East; soil surveys for specific uses like land reclamation, sewage scattering, selection of dumping sites, woody buffer strips, etc.; implementation of a geo-referred soil database (SIS).
- Agricultural and land use planning for farms in Italy; land resources inventories in Italy and several countries of the Mediterranean Basin and Africa; and participation in various EC projects, with European and non European partners, relating to soil and environmental protection and sustainable use of natural resources.
- Forestry and permanent crops planning at farm level in Italy as part of the European 2080 scheme; and olive-tree growing and development of olive oil production in Italy and other countries of the Mediterranean Basin.
- Environment including monitoring of EC LIFE-Environment projects in Italy, Slovenia and Malta; environmental impact assessments for the implementation of high-speed railways in Italy; development and experimentation of a prototype for groundwater investigation funded by the EC and involving several SMEs and the University of Bordeaux; and forest fire prevention in Italy.
Whenever possible, the implementation of TIMESIS projects includes on-the-job professional training of local personnel.
The TIMESIS in-house laboratory performs physical soil analyses: determination of soil water retention, pH, EC, bulk density, etc. In 1997, TIMESIS was the first company in Italy to be certified in conformity with the quality standard system UNI EN ISO 9001-2000 for the following services: technical consulting, design and development of studies in the field of pedology. In 1998, TIMESIS opened a second office in Turin (Italy).
